Bloom

As Winter finally starts fading I get very ready for signs of life and signs of bloom. This often leads to an explosion of color on the canvas.

Its A Mood 30x24 1

It’s a Mood

Sweeping shapes and soft shades of blue and gray warm up into rosy pink and warm orange and yellow – just like Winter warming up into Spring.

Fresh Start

I set a challenge for myself – a very limited palette in a color that I rarely used. Funnily enough, it ended up sparking a bit of a fresh new trend (isn’t that always the way of personal challenges and pushing oneself?) Fresh Start helped free me not only from an artistic block but also led to an easy sale and my first commission. Aptly named, I suppose.

aura 24 36 web

Aura

Painted in shades of cobalt turquoise (or teal), yellow, and white.

Started and completed in the grips of a migraine. The soft base certainly reflected the beginning auras, while the final, sharper details reflect the paths out of the brain fog and haze.

Aura has been displayed at the Gutman Gallery as part of the Emerge group exhibition and can also be seen online as part of Abstract Expressions , Red Bluff Art Gallery 3-D Virtual Exhibit

Squall 1

Squall

Painted in shades of blue, orange, yellow, and white.

The eye of the storm and the true depth of the storm are only separated by moments, yet the experience of each is dramatically different. This is something to keep in mind on bad days – to breathe, to wait, and to ride out the storm and see how things look as the storm passes.

searching for patterns 1

Searching for Patterns

We spend our lives looking for patterns. They help us make sense of things – shortcuts to meaning-making.

feminization of pink rotated 1

Pink is Just a Color

Painted in shades of bright fuchsia pink, black and gray.

Pink is just a color – and women learn who they are through their relationships with others. Neither of these statements is as simple or as complicated as they seem.

Deep Waters

Painted in shades of black, blue, and pops of orange.

Deep Waters was painted with the thought in mind that the saying that Still Waters Run Deep doesn’t necessarily mean the reverse – that Deep Waters certainly don’t always Run Still (which is why it will sometimes appear with a longer alternate title). Those who think deeply often get pulled into nasty deep currents and it’s important to hold onto spots of brightness and light.

Forest for the Tree

Sometimes you just need to stop and smell the roses, or slow down and enjoy life – after all, you just might miss something.
